Since 2017, I have been capturing portraits of Thai transgender women in an ongoing project I call “FALLEN ANGELS”. People often ask me why I choose to photograph Thai trans women. My fascination with beauty and aesthetics, which initially led me to pursue a career in fashion photography, is a significant part of the answer. Upon my arrival to Thailand in 2014, I was struck by the unique and enigmatic beauty of many Thai trans women. This inspiration, combined with my unwavering belief in justice and equal rights for all, prompted me to embark on this project. Through a series of fashion-inspired photographs, I explore themes such as beauty, gender, self acceptance versus social acceptance, struggle, courage, and hope. I find transgender individuals particularly inspiring as they courageously and determinedly pursue their true identity in the face of considerable challenges. While I don’t expect my photographs to change minds over night, I hope that by creating and showcasing this project, I can contribute to supporting the LGBTQ community’s fight for equal rights. In doing so, I also stand in solidarity with any minority group combating oppression, occupation, and discrimination in various parts of the world today.
